One of my clients is a classic entrepreneur. I’m not kidding. That is the title for her Myers-Briggs type: ENTP = Classic Entrepreneur. Her motivation (according to her type): Setting sights on the winning edge; having an impact and then moving onto something new.
Seeing possibilities is really easy for her. She has big visions and ideas.
AND sometimes, she gets stuck. When she does, I know that we need to bring her back down to the ground for just a bit so she can look around and take stock of there HERE and now. It’s amazing how much easier it is for her to come up with a plan to get her to her big vision after we do that.
I have another client who is the opposite. The title for her ESFP type is Everyone’s Friend.
Her motivation (according to her type): Adding warmth, excitement, and fun to work and leisure; enjoying the richness of family, friends and the real world.
She is great with the HERE and now AND she can get stuck in that. Even though she performs really well there, she still gets frustrated when she feels stagnant. That’s when I know we need to get her looking at the big picture. We gotta create a big THERE to get to.
Once we do, she gets fired up and we can create a plan to work backwards from THERE to HERE so she can figure out what to do next.
Next time you are stuck, take a moment to make sure you are taking stock of the HERE and now, and make sure you have created a compelling THERE vision. Once you do, it will be easier to create the plan that will get you from HERE to THERE.
